  • Studium syntézy makromolekulárních látek, polymerizačních mechanismů a fyzikálně-chemických charakteristik se zaměřením na syntézu polyamidů, polyesterů, polyesteramidů a jejich nanokompozitů, polyimidů, polyolefinů, silikonových kaučuků.

  • Studium vztahů mezi zpracováním, strukturou a vlastnostmi polymerních materiálů se zaměřením na cílenou modifikaci vlastností polymerů síťováním, přídavkem aditiv, formulaci polymerních směsí a polymerních kompozitů, včetně vývoje nových typů kompatibilizátorů umožňujících také vhodnou recyklaci a zhodnocení odpadních polymerů, na bázi elastomerů, polyvinylchloridu, polyolefinů, polyamidů a silikonového kaučuk.

  • Ústav disponuje chemickými a fyzikálními laboratořemi pro syntézu makromolekulárních látek a pro zpracování kaučuků a plastů,řadou moderních přístrojů pro sledování molekulárních charakteristik, fyzikálně-chemických, zpracovatelských i užitných vlastností polymerů a polymerních materiálů.

Ústav polymerů poskytuje výzkumné, vývojové, analytické, konzultační a expertní služby v oblastech SYNTÉZY, ZPRACOVÁNÍ A HODNOCENÍ POLYMERŮ pro jejich výrobce a zpracovatele i uživatele produktů z plastů a pryží.

Vědecko - výzkumná činnost je zaměřena především na:

  • polyamidy, kinetiku a mechanismus polymerace a kopolymerace laktamů, přípravu blokových kopolymerů, modifikace polyamidů včetně studia jejich biodegradability
  • polyesteramidy, polyestery a kopolyestery alifatické a alifaticko-aromatické,
    syntézu a studium jejich biodegradace
  • přípravu polyimidů a studium jejich vlastností
  • katalytické polymerace olefinů, dienů a CO2
  • přípravu a studium vlastností polymerních membrán 
  • analýzu vysokomolekulárních i nízkomolekulárních produktů polymerace
  • kvalitativní analýzu polymerů
  • hodnocení vlivu a účinnosti přísad do kaučuků a plastů
  • optimalizaci užitných vlastností polymerů, jejich směsí a polymerních kompozitů
  • síťování polymerů (vulkanizaci a kovulkanizaci kaučuků a síťování termoplastů)
  • stárnutí a degradaci polymerů (pryží a plastů včetně jejich stabilizace)
  • recyklaci polymerních odpadů.

Kromě základního laboratorního a poloprovozního vybavení pro syntézu a zpracování polymerů (kaučuků a plastů) vlastní ústav unikátní přístroje rovněž využitelné i pro vědecko-výzkumné, vývojové, expertní a servisní práce, prováděné na zakázku. Přehled přístojů.

Nadační fond soustřeďuje peněžní, materiálové a další zdroje od sponzorů a využívá jich ve prospěch studentů bakalářského studia oborů Chemie a technologie materiálů, Chemie materiálů pro automobilový průmysl, Syntéza a výroba léčiv, Biomateriály pro medicínské použití, Chemie a materiály ve forenzní analýze;  magisterského studia oborů Polymerní materiály, Makromolekulární chemie, Výroba léčiv, Biomateriály ;  a studentů doktorského studia oboru Makromolekulární chemie.

Podporuje formou stipendií studenty bakalářského a magisterského studia, kteří se ve volném čase zapojují do vědecko-výzkumné činnosti ústavu polymerů. Výsledky své vědecké práce studenti zúročí na Studentské vědecké konferenci a v bakalářských a diplomových pracích.

Finančně přispívá účastníkům studentských vědeckých konferencí, na nichž studenti prezentují veřejnosti výsledky své vědecké práce. Úspěšné práce jsou oceněny z fakultních a nadačních zdrojů a zároveň jsou štědře odměňovány i zástupci průmyslových podniků, přítomných na konferenci. Tato setkání umožní studentům kontakty s budoucími zaměstnavateli.

Přispívá na tuzemské a zahraniční praxe a studijní pobyty studentům doktorandského studia.

Pořizuje odbornou literaturu, učební a vědecké pomůcky nezbytné pro úspěšné plnění studijních a výzkumných úkolů.

Research Interests

Research is focused mainly on the anionic polymerization of lactams : earlier 2-pyrrolidone, later anionic polymerization of ε-caprolactam and its copolymerization with ε-caprolactone and ω-laurolactam (activity and modification of initiation systems, (co)polymerization kinetics, non-activated polymerization, CO2 as activator etc.)  Most recently we are dealing with:

  • preparation of block copolymers poly(ε-caprolactam)-block-(elastomer)- materials with increased impact strength for industrial applications
  • preparation of polyesteramides by simultaneous anionic (co)polymerization of lactams with lactones, biodegradable materials for preparation of micro- and nanofibres
  • mechanistic aspects of lactams copolymerization, especially ε-caprolactam and ω-laurolactam using different anionic initiators
  • preparation of polyamide and copolyamide nanocomposites either by exfoliated adsorption or by polymerization procedure 
  • industrial applications of lactams anionic polymerization mainly for mold casting
  • mechanism of preparation and modification of aliphatic polyesters and copolyesters

Research Interests

Research is oriented towards the processing of elastomers and plastics with aim of evaluation of modification of polymers and polymer blends including their crosslinking, additivation, compatibilisation, and recycling.

Roles of alkoxy titanates and zirconates as multifunctional agents for polymers (Invited paper)

Alkoxy titanates and zirconates as coupling agents chemically bond inorganic as well as organic fillers and polymers via proton coordination without the need of water of condensation as with alkoxy silanes. Thermally stable alkoxy titanates and zirconates function as in-situ metallocene-like polymerisation and copolymerisation catalysts for filled or unfilled polymers during the plastication resulting in their significantly faster thermoplastic processing at lower temperatures. The catalysis effect is permanent and recyclable. Novel trialkoxy zirconates are shown to be transparent, permanent, non-blooming and non-moisture dependent multifunctional agents.

Recent and present trends in the commodity/specialty polymers relationship (Invited special lecture)

 In the second half of the outgoing century, polymeric materials have been a major facilitator of technical progress, which has been the basis for many elements of our standard of living today. Polymer consumption looks back at an impressive growth. The increase over the years has been fairly steady, with only minor dips during the two oil crises, and will continue into the 21st century because of the growing world population and global striving for a higher standard of living. Looking at the polymer development in the 21st century, we can see the continuation of good product availability and changes in terms of globalisation and restructuring.

A forecast is always risky and often likely to be wrong, as the two independent forecasts of plastics manufacture development for the mid-1990s made in mid-1970 demonstrates. The interaction of process, product, and market developments indicates that established (commodity) polymers will continue to grow well. Against the line of them, it is going to be difficult for new (speciality) polymers to establish themselves in a group of well-positioned polymers.

Thermoplastic vulcanisates

Thermoplastic vulcanisates represent a relatively young, but thus early widely used group of thermoplastic elastomers. They are mixtures of thermoplastics with elastomers. Their morphology is based on a dispersion of fully vulcanised rubber in a thermoplastic matrix. For this reason, a special mixing process is needed for their production. However their processing is easy. They do not require expensive manufacturing and processing machinery, and have a wide range of properties suitable for different applications.

Thermoplastic elastomers on the basis of HDPE/SBR blends (Invited key lecture)

The aim of the work was to create maximally cheap thermoplastic elastomer, at the same time possessing appropriate properties. First of all price analysis has been performed. The cheapest variants of thermoplastic elastomer blends are combinations polyethylene (PE)/butadiene-styrene rubber (SBR) and polypropylene (PP)/SBR. A study of thermodynamic aspects has showed potential supremacy of high-density polyethylene (HDPE)/SBR blends over PP/SBR ones.

 

CONCLUSIONS

 

  • HDPE/SBR blends can be dynamically vulcanised with a standard cure system and the resulting material shows typical properties of thermoplastic elastomers or if you like thermoplastic vulcanisates.

 

  • Hardnessrangesfrom 24 to 38 Shore D, tensilestrengthfrom 9 to 15 MPa, compression set from 45 to 66 %, elongationatbreakisabout 400 %. Minimum tensile set reachedwas 12 %.

Hyperbranched polyimides containing additives

The study of the preparation of (nano)composite materials based on the polyimides and additives (silica, metal-organic frameworks, magnetic particles). The influence of the additives on properties of the products is explored.

Biodegradable polymers

Study of degradation process of polyesters induced by microorganism and especially enzymes by evaluation of degraded material changes and by characterization of degradation products released into the medium. The research is particularly focused on the relationship between the molar mass, crystallinity, and specimen form of polyester and the mechanism of its biodegradation. Silicone rubber/montmorillonite nanocomposites preparation

Preparation of nanocomposites silicone rubber/montmorillonite by “in situ” polymerization of cyclosiloxane and homogenization of silicone rubber and nanofiller on three-roll mill. Formation of 3 types of composites (separated com-posite, intercalated and exfoliated nanocomposite). Utilization of nanocomposites for barrier pro-perties measurement with the aim of elimination of silicone rubber permeability.
